Simon Community/St Vincent De Paul Fundraiser

17th Dec 2021
Last night a large group of staff, pupils, parents from our PTA, and representatives from the Board of Governors of SJBC participated in our "Big Sleep Out" event in an effort to raise much needed funds the Simon Community. There were some very tired looking faces at the charity breakfast this morning, but spirits remained very high as news of the rising totals of contributions trickled through.    We are totally overwhelmed by the generosity we have experienced from the local community through online donations as well as through our bucket appeal within the town yesterday. Mr James Dunbar from the Simon Community NI said that they never envisaged raising as much money and that all funds raised had already been allocated such is the high level of need this year. Our just giving link on our Facebook page will remain live for another week, should anyone wish to contribute now.    Our pupils have also collected practical resources including clothes, sleeping bags etc. which will be distributed by the Simon Community over the coming days.   This charitable effort comes on the back of our in-school fundraising initiatives for St Vincent De Paul. Earlier in the week we handed over a cheque to the value of £2,130 to the President and Vice President of the Portadown branch of SVDP.   We are delighted to be able to give these significant donations to two very worthy charities who make a very real and visible impact in this locality, and we remain indebted to the good will of our school community who supported us so generously. Principal, Mrs Noella Murray would like to whole-heartedly thank all concerned and she wishes the SJBC family and wider school community a very safe, happy and holy Christmas.
