Welcome to our Transition Portal

Transition from primary school to secondary school is a significant milestone in a young person's life. At St. John the Baptist College we are committed to ensuring that every student's transition is as smooth as possible. Our school ethos is ‘every child nurtured, valued and empowered to succeed’. We pride ourselves on providing the necessary steps and support for all our students throughout the transition period. We have active engagement with the pupils and teachers from our feeder primary schools to ensure that transition is managed effectively and from the minute students first enter the college, they can begin to make memories, engage with our range of excellent subjects, and feel both safe and valued within the school.

Throughout our transition period, we attend and host key events, to give us an opportunity to meet and support our incoming students.

We engage frequently with our feeder primary schools, creating partnership programmes such as Digital School House, High Achievers, P7 Blitz.

In December, we hold our annual ‘Taster Day’ where P7 students from our feeder schools get to experience a day in the College, trialling a range of exciting and engaging subjects.

In January, members of our transition team conduct visits to our feeder primary schools, to engage with our incoming students, allowing them time to ask questions and learn about everyday life within the college.

In January, we host our Open Day, where we invite students in both P6/7 into the College, with their families to explore the extensive range of subjects and facilities we have to offer.

In June, our transition team again visited our feeder Primary Schools so we can collect key information about our incoming students, allowing us to make sure they have as successful a transition as possible.

In June we also hold an information evening for parents/ carers of our new pupils, giving them an opportunity to meet key staff and ask any necessary questions.

In August, we welcome our new pupils into the College on a phased return, allowing them time in the school, without other pupils to settle into routine, meet their teachers and feel at ease.
