Mrs Murray is a languages graduate who enjoyed 15 very happy years of teaching before taking up the position of Principal. She initially was appointed as the Principal of Drumcree College in 2015 and two years later she took up the role of Principal in the then newly established St John the Baptist’s College. She also works as an Associate Assessor for the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) and as a Recruitment Advisor for the CCMS. In addition, Mrs Murray plays an active role within the Craigavon Area Learning Community, and she is on the steering committee for the Post Primary Principals’ Association. She is committed to leading a school which is inclusive and caring and she works very closely with the SJBC team and wider school community to ensure that “every child is valued, nurtured and empowered to excel”.
Mrs Hughes is the Vice Principal and has responsibility for Curriculum and Raising standards, is the High Achievers Co-ordinator and Extended Schools Co-Ordinator. She is a qualified Mathematics teacher with over 18 years of experience. Mrs Hughes delivers Mathematics across Key Stage 3 and 4 classes. She also collaborates with our feeder Primary Schools in implementing the High Achievers Programme in our school.
Mrs Brenda Leathem is a member of our school Senior Leadership Team. As part of this role she is the Designated Teacher in charge of Child Protection in St John the Baptist’s College. Any disclosures made about a child in our care will be referred to her. She is also the Nurture Co-ordinator in our school. Primary School pupils may also recognise her as the St John the Baptist’s College Primary School Liaison Officer. As the Head of Religious Education she is involved in ensuring that the Core Syllabus for R.E. is delivered to our pupils, and that liturgy is included in our school life.
Mr Rath is the SIMS and Data Manager within the college. He is currently the Health & Safety Officer and also assistants the Exams Officer. Along with these roles he is one of our Senior Leaders. Mr Rath is the Staff Representative on the Board of Governors.
Mr. Mc Conville has been a teacher in the school for almost 26 years. He teaches French and Irish to mainstream classes. He is also pivotal in the delivery of the Gaelic games programme. He is the person in charge of managing staff cover and CEIAG & Transition. Mr Mc Conville is the Year 12 Progress Leader.
Mrs Towe is the Co-ordinator of Special Educational Needs. She is a member of the Extended Leadership Team. Mrs Towe also teaches Business Enterprise to all Key Stage 3 pupils and GCSE Business and Communication Systems and BTEC Business First Award to Key Stage 4 pupils.
Mrs McCaffrey is the ICT and Innovation Coordinator and is responsible for overseeing e-learning and the use of digital platforms such as Google Classroom. She is a History and English teacher who has taught in St. John the Baptist's College for over 10 years and is also a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Mrs Mc Keever is the Yr11 Progress Leader. She is also the Community Links Co-ordinator and Health and Well-being Co-ordinator for staff and pupils. She teaches Physical Education and Home Economics.
Mrs Coyne is an Art & Design teacher with many years of teaching experience. Art pupils in SJBC have enjoyed their after schools fun art classes, trips to the Ulster Museum and window painting in the neighbouring Rosemount Nursing Home Portadown. This year pupils in KS3 and KS4 won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in our local Credit Union poster design. The Art department currently have two GCSE examination classes.
Mr McCabe is the Head of Technology & Design - he also teaches Engineering and Construction. He has a BSc in Technology & Design as well as his PGCE. He is involved with STEM and helps out with boys Soccer and Gaelic teams. Mr McCabe is also our Year 9 Progress Leader and is looking forward to supporting pupils through their second year.
Mrs Scullion currently teaches Mathematics to KS3 and KS4 at SJBC. This is her third year within the college but she has 10 years teaching experience. Mrs Scullion graduated with a BSC in Mathematics from QUB and completed her PGCE the following year. She is the Exams Officer within the school.
Ms S Murphy is in her sixth year of teaching at St John the Baptist's College. She qualified from St Mary's University College with first class honours in Liberal Arts with English. Ms Murphy then completed her PGCE in Ulster University. Ms Murphy is the Designated Teacher in charge of Safeguarding and Child Protection. Any disclosures made about a child in our care will be referred to her. Ms Murphy is also Leader of Learning for English and is very proud of the vibrant, dynamic department.
Miss Copley currently teaches KS3 and KS4 English. She graduated from Queen's University Belfast with a BA in English and a distinction in Literary Studies at Master's Level. She then completed her PGCE in UWTSD in 2021. She enjoys Music, Drama, Reading and Arts and Crafts. Every Friday at lunch time, Miss Copley runs the Creative Writing workshop.
Miss Barker is the Geography and Travel and Tourism teacher at SJBC. Miss Barker helps out with the school Ladies Gaelic football teams within the college. Miss Barker is a form teacher to 8D and is looking forward to supporting them throughout their journey in the college. Outside of school Miss Barker’s interests include playing Camogie for her local club in Dungannon as well as well as fashion. Miss Barker loves to travel and has visited many countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Bali, South Africa and America.
Miss Seeley is a History and Geography teacher in the school. Miss Seeley teaches both History and Geography at KS3 and delivers the GCSE History course. Miss Seeley has been a member of SJBC since February 2022. She graduated from Queen’s University Belfast, with a degree in History & Politics in July 2020, and moved on to complete her PGCE with Queen’s University Belfast, graduating in July 2021. Miss Seeley is a form teacher to 8E and is looking forward to supporting them throughout their journey in the college. Miss Seeley has a strong interest in politics, enjoys drama, particularly musical theatre, and outside of school loves travelling and spending time with her friends and family.
Miss Gervin is a PE, Home Economics and RE teacher at SJBC. As a teaching graduate of Ulster University, Coleraine with a BSc Hon in Sport and Exercise Science. Miss Gervin helps coach our school Basketball and Ladies Gaelic football teams. She is Form Teacher to 11B and is looking forward to supporting her form class throughout this academic year.
Outside of school, Miss Gervins interests include playing Gaelic football for Aodh Ruadh and going for walks. Miss Gervin loves going to Gaelic football games and is a big Tyrone fan.
Miss Conway is the leader of learning in the RE Department. She currently teaches Religious Education and Learning for Life and Work to both KS3 and KS4 pupils. She is the co-ordinator of our faith leaders in the school. Miss Conway is our PR and Marketing Strategist.
Mrs Breslin joined our staff in September 2022. After graduating from St Mary’s University College, Belfast in 2015 with a 2:1 in Religious Studies and English, she moved to London where she taught RE for 7 years. Mrs Breslin teaches Religion and English to both Key Stage Three and Key Stage Four pupils. She is also form tutor to 10C.
Miss Trainor joins our staff in September 2022. She graduated from Saint Mary’s University College, Belfast with 2:1 in Religion and completed a PGCE in 2019. Miss Trainor will deliver Religion, LLW, PAL and History within the College and is a Year 9 Form Teacher.
Miss Boden joined the College in September 2020 and teaches KS3 Business Innovation and GCSE ICT, she delivers both OCN ICT and CCEA GCSE ICT. Miss Boden is the supervisor of the Digital Leaders group and she also teaches those students who participate in the Coding enrichment classes. Miss Boden has been teaching for three years after she graduated with a B.Ed in Business Studies with ICT from St Mary’s University College Belfast, she is the Form Teacher to 11D and is excited to support them this year at SJBC. Miss Boden’s interests lie in all GAA aspects and she enjoys mountain walking in her spare time.
Mr King teaches RE, LLW, Princes Trust and PAL in SJBC. He joined our school in 2020 but he has been teaching RE for twelve years in three different schools in Liverpool. Mr King is our KS3 manager who helps our supporting the pastoral needs of our pupils. Outside of teaching Mr King enjoys orienteering, music and has started to learn Spanish.
Mr Watters qualified from St Mary's College in 2021 as Business and ICT teacher. He is teaching Business and ICT to KS3 and KS4 in the college. Mr Watters runs our ICT club on a Tuesday as well as being actively invovled in the sports clubs. Mr Watters is form teacher to 12V and is looking forward to supporting them throughout their GCSE year.
Miss Hughes graduated from St Mary’s University with a B.Ed. in Maths and Science and joined the college in September 2020. She currently teaches Mathematics and Science to KS3 and KS4 at SJBC. Miss Hughes is involved with the STEM club, Eco club and Horticulture programme within the school. She is also the year 10 progress leader and is looking forward to supporting them throughout the year ahead.
Mr Page teaches English at SJBC. He is the form teacher for 12V and is based in Room 15. He is the school Literacy Coordinator and takes the Year 9 soccer team. Outside of SJBC he works with Brassneck Youth Theatre in Belfast. Mr Page also likes to go on mountain walks, play guitar and is learning to speak Irish.
Ms McGrath is one of our Music teachers in the college. She graduated from Dublin City University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Religious Education and Music. She has recently finished a Masters in Education in Special Educational Needs and Inclusion in Queen’s University Belfast. She taught music and RE in Dublin. Ms McGrath also worked as an SEN Classroom Assistant and then a Music, RE, Drama and LLW teacher before taking up her role in SJBC. She previously led and conducted an orchestra in Dublin and played in a string ensemble that performed for all the City of Dublin Education and Training Board events.
Miss McCartan joined the college in September 2020. She teaches Home Economics and Childcare within the school and is also involved with the delivery of Preparation for Adult Life (PAL) and Prince’s Trust at KS4. Miss McCartan helps out with our after school Cookery Club and Gaelic football team. She is also Form Teacher to 11A and is looking forward to supporting them throughout this academic year. Outside of school Miss McCartan’s interests/hobbies include playing Gaelic football and Camogie.
Mr McAleenan teaches PE and LLW. His main interests/hobbies is playing Gaelic football for Warrenpoint GAA and he also coaches the schools football teams. Mr McAleenan is 12C Form Teacher and he is excited for the school year ahead.
Mr McGourty joined the college in 2022 and teaches PE. His main interests/hobbies is playing Gaelic football and Hurling for Ardboe GAC and he also helps coach the school’s football teams. Mr McGourty is 10B Form Teacher and he is looking forward to helping all pupils progress this academic year.
Mrs Carolan is Head of the Science Department and has been teaching at the College for almost 20 years. She teaches Science to KS3 and KS4. Mrs Carolan has also been involved in the Eco Schools programme for the past 12 years and has helped the College gain four Green Flag awards and 2 Eco-UNESCO awards. Mrs Carolan is a form teacher to 9B and is looking forward to supporting them throughout this year in the College.
Mr McSherry has been a teacher in the school for 25 years. He teaches KS3 Technology & Design as well as Occupational Studies Construction at KS4. He graduated with a BEng (hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from QUB before completing his PGCE.
Mrs D Kerr, is Head of Mathematics in the college. She teaches Mathematics across KS3 and KS4 classes and has been working in the college for 6 years. Mrs D Kerr graduated from Queens with a Masters in Mathematics and a year later she completed her PGCE. Mrs D Kerr is also the Lead Teacher for the Digital SchoolHouse Programme which involves collaborating with the local Primary Schools to deliver Coding and Computer Science.
Mr Smith graduated from Liverpool John Moore’s University with a BSc in Mathematics. He has previously taught for 2 years in Qatar. Mr Smith teaches mathematics at KS3 and KS4 level. He also currently coaches the Year 8 and Year 9 boys soccer teams in the school. Mr Smith is form teacher to 11C and is looking forward to the year ahead.
Mrs Rodgers is the Progress Leader for Year 8 and as part of her role she promotes a positive ethos for pupils, whilst ensuring that they thrive and realise their full potential. She feels privileged to work alongside our Year 8 pupils, supporting them at the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in their lives.
Mrs Rodgers also delivers English across Key Stage 3 and 4 classes. She qualified with an honours degree in Liberal Arts with English from St. Mary’s University and subsequently, studied for a Postgraduate Diploma and master's degree in English, before completing her Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Queen’s University.
She also co-ordinates Student Leadership within the college.
Mrs van der Westhuizen is one of the Music teachers in SJBC and she currently teaches Music, LLW, Religion and Performing Arts. She joined the school in September 2021 and is having a great time with her very talented pupils. She graduated with a BMus from Queen’s University in Belfast and completed her PGCE in Ulster University Coleraine. Mrs van der Westhuizen is a choir enthusiast and has been involved with both singing and directing choirs her whole life. In school, she is responsible for music lessons, choir, African drumming club and performing arts. Outside school, Mrs van der Westhuizen is part of various musical groups and loves sharing these experiences with her pupils.
Miss Molloy graduated from Warwick University in July 2020 and joined the school in 2021. She currently teaches Science to KS3 and KS4 in SJBC. Miss Molloy is involved with the Eco club and Horticulture programme within the school. She is also the form tutor to 10C and is looking forward to supporting students in the year ahead.
Miss Morgan is an English teacher in the school and currently teaches English at KS3 and KS4. Miss Morgan graduated from St Mary's University College Belfast with a B.E.d in Religious Studies and English. Miss Morgan also takes the takes the Performing Arts club and the KS3 Book Club. Miss Morgan’s interests outside of school include: travelling, singing, dancing and drama!
Mrs Rafferty is an Art and Design teacher here in SJBC. Having previously graduated with a BEd in Art and Design, she has since gained a wealth of experience over 15 years teaching across all Key Stages in both the Primary and Secondary sector. Alongside Art, she also teaches English and enjoys the variety every day. Mrs Rafferty enjoys music, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Mrs Whitehouse delivers the Occupational Studies Hairdressing programme to KS4 pupils and assists with our STEM enrichment program here at St John the Baptist's College. Outside of college, Mrs Whitehouse works as a Part-time Lecturer in Hairdressing and manages her own Hair Salon. She is currently studying towards her NVQ level 2 in Beauty Therapy.
Miss O’Neill qualified in 2021 with BSc Biochemistry and completed her PGCE in 2022. She delivers Key Stage 3 and 4 Science and Key Stage 3 Mathematics. Miss O’Neill is form teacher to a Year 10 group.
Mrs. Swain is a Nurture Practitioner based in our Nurtury. As a BACP registered Integrative Counsellor, she plays a pivotal role in our Pastoral Team providing 1:1 mentoring and additional counselling for students, to supplement the counselling provision in school by Links Counselling. Mrs. Swain is a Deputy Designated Teacher for Safeguarding and Child Protection as well as running our Student Council to ensure that value is placed on the Pupils’ Voice. Mrs Swain is our Facebook Manager and also runs our Homework Club after school.
Mrs O’Neill is one of the Science teachers in the school. She is teaching KS3 and KS4 science as well as GCSE PAL. She has over 10 years experience as a teacher. Mrs O’Neill is the KS4 Pastoral leader and is looking forward to leading KS4 pupils through their GCSE journey.
Nicole graduated from St Mary’s University College in 2020 with a degree in English, and is currently working with our Year 9 students.
Michael Toland is a Classroom Assistant with Year 11s, Michael previously attended the school, from 2005-2010, Michael has a degree in Sports Science. Michael previously worked with the Transform Project, his hobbies include playing football for ballyoran football club and going to the gym. He also works part time at the local youth club.
Darragh is our science technician in the school, he previously worked in many primary schools as a sports coach and as a classroom assistant in our learning support unit and mainstream classes he also currently works with ABC council as a casual sports coach in local MUGAs. Outside of school, Darragh plays for Ballyoran football club.
Mairead McConville joined SJBC in January 2021 after 13 years working as a Classroom Assistant in Primary School. She has a BA Hons Degree from University of Ulster at Jordanstown.
Emily is a classroom assistant working with a year 11 class. Emily has a BA Hons degree in graphic design and illustration and especially enjoys helping the kids in her class out with art work and creative projects. Emily has spent many summers volunteering in her local community centre, supervising children of all ages in creative play and activities.
Louise joined SJBC in 2021 as a classroom assistant. She works alongise a Year 10 class ensuring each child feels supported and valued.
Having worked as a Classroom Assistant for many years, Aine is now a Clerical Officer in the main office and SENCO Assistant. She offers support to our Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator, students and staff.
Elsa is a general classroom assistant, she provides support to all the students and those who speak Portuguese as their first language, whilst also giving support to their parents.
She supports students who need to improve their learning experience and self-confidence. Elsa also provides support to children doing their GCSE Portuguese.
Elsa has been part of the first aid support group for students and she helped to adminitrate the school bus and payments.
Shannen is a classroom assistant working with our year 12s. Shannen has previous experience with working as class room assistant in other schools. Shannen has completed courses in childcare, health and social care and first aid.
Paula joined our team of classroom assistants in 2020. She works closely with year 11s to provide both pastoral and educational support.
Shileen is our student support officer for KS4 pupils within our school. She helps to support and guide pupils who are struggling with the pressures of GCSE pathways. Shileen has a counselling background which makes her perfect for this role.
Olimpia is one of our Classroom Assistants however, she has also been providing EAL support within the college. Olimpia has qualifications in ESOL, First Aid and more recently in counselling children through grief and bereavement.
Andrew joined our team in 2022 as a Classroom Assistant. He works closely with Year 12 pupils this year helping them with their GCSE journey.
Chloe joined the college in 2021 as a classroom assistant. She is working closely with Year 9 pupils this year helping them with their educational and pastoral needs.
Mr Feeney is the Technology & Design Technician here in SJBC. His role is to provide support to teachers and students within the TD Department. He is a Joiner by trade, however, he has recently graduated from UUJ with an Honours Degree in Sports Coaching.
Ciara McIlmoyle supports the management of Finance and Administration within the school.
Jill is a clerical officer in the main office. She provides administrative support to staff throughout the college.

Aine is one of our classroom assistants and is working with Year 8 this year.
Brigidine is part of the admin team within the College. She provides administrative support to the Principal & school Bursar. She also helps out with Breakfast Club in the mornings.
Mrs Tennyson is our lady Caretaker and has worked in the school for over 20 years.
