GCHQ’s CyberFirst are coming to Northern Ireland this summer! Registration is now open for CyberFirst short courses, designed to introduce the younger generation to the world of cyber security. These courses will provide young people in Northern Ireland with the support, skills, experience and exposure that they need to pursue a dynamic and rewarding career.
The free, five-day courses are taking place in Belfast, and can be residential or non-residential. They are open to teenagers, aged 14 – 17 years old, of any experience level.
- CyberFirst Defenders is for all 14-15 year olds, enabling them to visualise a cyber security career. This course is 15 – 19 July.

- CyberFirst Futures is for all 15-16 year olds, who would enjoy getting into the mind of a cyber attacker and explore their typical behaviours and motivations. This course is 8 – 12 July.

- CyberFirst Advanced is for all 16-17 year olds seeking to hone the skills and behaviours they need to enter the cyber security or computing workplace. This course is 1 – 5 July.
- CyberFirst isn’t just for coders, it’s for all sorts of passions and skills, from vloggers, gamers and instagrammers, to problem-solvers, creative thinkers and team-players.
Life wouldn’t be the same now without technology and the information we store on it, so it’s important we protect it. Cyber security is the first line of defence, if we want to keep our modern way of life safe.
So we are calling for teachers and parents in Northern Ireland to encourage their students and children to take part in CyberFirst, and develop the skills needed to safeguard our digital planet. If the students then discover cyber security isn’t the subject for them, they will have still spent a part of their school holidays honing valuable transferable skills, enabling them to stay safe online and pursue any other career!
