Together: Building a United Community
St. John the Baptist’s College and Clounagh Junior School have the opportunity to run a shared education project entitled “Together: Building a United Community - Portadown Educates Together”. The project runs from September to December.
The aims of the project are:
- To promote positive attitudes towards people from different backgrounds
- To develop contacts and friendships between young people from different backgrounds
- To encourage a shared community through shared activities
- To recognise the role of young people in peace building
- To create a safe community for young people and enable the sharing of experiences
- To promote and develop cultural expression and a better understanding of and respect for cultural differences
We run the workshops in both schools and in the local community. Some of the events include;
- Team building activities – ‘it’s a knockout’
- Group discussions on current issues facing our 2 communities
- Sponsored walk
- 3 day residential in Shannaghmore
- ICT activities
- Final celebration event with staff and parents
